Testimonials
Testimonials by young adults who have worked alongside Megan as students or colleagues:
I had the opportunity to sail with Megan in the fall of 2019, on the Sea Semester trip from Woods Hole, MA to Dominica and the USVI. Megan was one of the mates on this trip, and I loved having her as my watch officer. She has a patient, steady, wise presence, and a deep well of knowledge and experience. When Megan finds out a person’s strengths, she encourages them to use their skills to the benefit of the group, and to further their own knowledge and learning for their personal growth. Megan always had the ship and crew’s safety as the top priority, and teaching/learning as a very close second. Every moment was an opportunity for growth; Megan challenged us to expand our knowledge, hone our abilities, trust our instincts, and be ourselves. I learned so much from her as a teacher, mentor, leader, and person, and would highly recommend joining any program with her at the helm. Plus, she is a talented musician and has a great sense of humor! I can’t wait to sail with her again some day!

I could listen to Megan talk for hours. I can't imagine the things she has seen. |
Megan’s guidance and quiet wisdom has had the largest impact on the way I see myself and the world. She has such a love for talking with students and engaging with what brings them to the boat. She worked each day to share her passion for sailing and love for the freedoms the world has to offer. There were moments on my voyage where we had to use what we learned in higher stress situations, like squalls and passing fishing boats. I fully trusted Megan and my captain to keep us safe and know our limits as students. Megan made my experience on SEA Semester and I know she will be the best mentor in her new endeavor.

Anyone who is lucky enough to work with Megan will find comfort in her calm demeanor and great ability to lead a sailing crew. Megan is filled with a wealth of knowledge about the sea from her experiences in many of the world’s oceans. Anyone who meets her is immediately graced with kindness and a feeling that you have already known her for many years. Megan’s sailing skills are unmatched. She works well in team settings and is great with sailors of varying skill levels. I absolutely recommend sailing with Megan, once you do so, you will be eager to sail with her again!

Megan was my Watch Officer for the third and final leg of my cruise as a Sea Semester student on the SSV Corwith Cramer. Megan helped me navigate through physical challenges like seasickness or sail handling with a gentle but confident approach. More than that, Megan helped me feel at home during my time at sea. She is one of the most inspiring people that I have met during my adventures. She not only helped me become a confident sailor, but also guided me to look inwards and conquer aspects of my life on land that held me back. When I met Megan and sailed alongside the crew of the SSV Corwith Cramer, I was very much in a transitional period in life. Megan gave me the confidence to pick up the pieces and move forward. I will always be grateful for the time I spent sailing under her guidance.

I worked with Megan from January-March 2020, and I know that my SEA Semester experience wouldn’t have been as enriching and fun without Megan as my 2nd mate. She has a passion for teaching, learning, and sailing that is absolutely contagious; from the moment I met her I recognized that she was the mentor I needed at that time in my life, and I feel grateful to have been able to soak up as much knowledge from such a genuine and passionate person for the time we sailed together. To any other student who has the opportunity to sail with and learn from Megan, I encourage them to take that opportunity, and savor it.
